York Heat Pump Service: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide

York heat pump service in Las Vegas typically runs $150 – $650 depending on which component failed, and we stock the most common York-compatible parts on our trucks for same-day repair in most cases. Most homeowners discover a problem the same way: the thermostat calls for cool air, the outdoor unit runs, but the air coming from the vents feels warm or weak. Sometimes it is a dead capacitor, sometimes a contactor that has welded itself shut after one too many 110-degree afternoons, and sometimes the reversing valve has given up entirely.

Here is the thing about heat pumps in Las Vegas: they run nearly year-round. Your York unit is not just heating in January. It is cooling from April through October, sometimes into November. That constant load means parts fail faster here than they would in a milder climate. We see it every week out in Summerlin, Henderson, and the northwest valley. A part that might last twelve years in San Diego gives you eight or nine here, and that is if the unit was installed right in the first place.

Brandt HVAC Co Las Vegas is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with York and we do not pretend to be. What we are is a shop that stocks York-compatible service parts, knows the model quirks, and gives you a written price before any tool comes off the truck.

Which York Models This Applies To

We service the full range of York residential heat pumps sold in the Las Vegas market over the past 20 years. That includes the Affinity series (YZH, YZE, YZF), the LX series (YHJF, YHJR), and the Latitude series (YHE, YHM, YHT). If you have an older York Stealth or Stellar unit still hanging on, we work on those too, though we will be honest with you about whether the repair makes sense on a unit past a certain age.

Here is the compatibility gotcha most people do not know: York uses different defrost control boards across series lines, and they are not interchangeable even when they look nearly identical. The YZH and YHJF boards have different pin configurations. Swapping the wrong one in works for about a week, then the unit starts acting like it has a mind of its own. We match parts by the model and serial number on the data plate, not by guesswork.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: York OEM parts carry the factory warranty and are built to the exact tolerance the unit was designed around. For things like capacitors, contactors, and defrost sensors, we often use OEM-equivalent parts from suppliers like Packard, Mars, or Supco. They meet or exceed the York spec, cost less, and honestly hold up just as well in this climate. For circuit boards and reversing valves, we use OEM. That is where a generic substitute can cause more problems than it solves.

Signs Your York Heat Pump Service Is Failing

  • Warm air in cooling mode. Usually the reversing valve is stuck or the compressor is not actually running. A stuck reversing valve is a classic York issue on units over ten years old here, because the constant cycling wears the internal seals faster in high heat.
  • Outdoor unit runs but the fan is not spinning. Nine times out of ten that is a failed run capacitor. The compressor might still run, but without the fan, the unit overheats and trips the high-pressure switch. We see this constantly in Las Vegas because sustained 100-plus degree days cook capacitors faster than anywhere else we have worked.
  • Unit short-cycles, turning on and off every few minutes. Could be a dirty condenser coil, a failing thermostat, or a low refrigerant charge from a slow leak. Short-cycling kills compressors early, so this is one you should not ignore for long.
  • Frost or ice on the outdoor coil in summer. That means the defrost system is malfunctioning, typically a bad defrost sensor or control board. In a heat pump, that frost means the refrigerant flow is wrong and you are cooling the outside of the coil instead of the inside.
  • Humming sound from the outdoor unit but nothing starts. If the compressor contactor has failed or the compressor itself is locked up, you will hear a low hum and then the unit will trip its breaker. A failed hard-start capacitor often causes this, and it is a relatively inexpensive fix if caught before the compressor overheats.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Most York heat pump repairs in Las Vegas run $150 – $650, parts and labor included, depending on the component. A dual-run capacitor replacement is typically $180 – $300. A contactor runs $200 – $350. A defrost control board is $350 – $550 installed. A reversing valve replacement runs $600 – $850 because it involves recovering refrigerant, cutting and brazing lines, pressure testing, and recharging the system.

Here is what every repair includes, no matter which part fails. You get a written price before we start, not a verbal estimate that might change. You get the exact part matched to your York model and serial number. You get a written warranty on the repair itself, and if that repair fails within the covered period, we come back at no charge under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. No argument, no second invoice, no chasing us down. That is how it works.

When the compressor itself fails, the math changes. A compressor replacement on a York heat pump runs $1,800 – $3,200 depending on the unit size and whether it is a scroll or reciprocating compressor. At that price, we will show you the numbers and let you decide whether repairing an older unit makes sense or whether those dollars go further toward a new system. Devin Marlowe has told more than a few Las Vegas homeowners that a replacement is the cheaper decision over three years, and he will tell you straight either way.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a couple of things you can safely check before calling. Is the circuit breaker tripped? Is the thermostat set correctly and the filter clean? Is the outdoor unit full of cottonwood fuzz or pet hair blocking the coil? Those checks cost you nothing and sometimes solve the problem.

What you should not do is open the electrical panel on a York heat pump and start testing components. These units carry 240 volts, and a capacitor holds a charge even after the power is off. It can bite you hard. The reversing valve, defrost board, and refrigerant system are not DIY territory either. A homeowner replacing a York defrost board with the wrong version void thousands of dollars of compressor warranty coverage. The wrong capacitor burns out a motor. Some things are better left to someone who has done it a hundred times.
