Get your free estimateAmerican Standard Heat Pump Service: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide
We stock and install American Standard-compatible heat pump parts across Las Vegas, with most repairs running $150 – $650 installed, parts and labor included. Same-day service is available for failed compressors, capacitors, reversing valves, and fan motors when the part is on our truck. Here’s the scene we get from most homeowners: the unit runs but the air isn’t hot or cold enough, or it won’t start at all, or there’s a sound coming from the cabinet that wasn’t there last week. You notice it on the first hot afternoon in April or the first cold snap in December, and by then the part has usually been struggling for a while.

Which American Standard Models This Applies To
We service the full American Standard residential heat pump line: the Silver, Gold, and Platinum series, including common models like the Heritage and AccuComfort lines. The compatibility issue we see most often is homeowners ordering a generic part online by size alone and finding it doesn’t mount or communicate correctly. American Standard uses proprietary control boards on higher-tier models, especially anything with AccuLink communicating technology. A universal board won’t talk to that system. For compressors, the spec that matters is the tonnage and the refrigerant type: R-410A on most units built after 2010, R-22 on older systems that are getting harder to source parts for. The model and serial number on the data plate give us everything we need. As for OEM versus aftermarket, we’re straightforward about it: for contactors, capacitors, and fan motors, a quality aftermarket part from a brand like Mars or Genteq often matches or exceeds OEM longevity. For control boards, reversing valves, and compressor replacements, we recommend American Standard OEM parts. The savings on an aftermarket board are not worth a communication failure a month later. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with American Standard, but we install their genuine parts and honor the same fitment standards.

Signs Your American Standard Heat Pump Service Is Failing
- Compressor won’t start, just hums for a few seconds and clicks off. This is usually the dual-run capacitor, a $20 – $60 part. In Las Vegas heat, capacitors degrade fast because they sit in a hot cabinet 90-plus days a year. We replace these on the first visit.
- Unit blows air, but it’s not warm in heating mode or cool in cooling mode. This can be a stuck reversing valve or low refrigerant. The reversing valve is the part that switches the unit between heating and cooling. If it’s stuck halfway, your system is fighting itself.
- Outdoor fan isn’t spinning, but you hear a humming from the unit. That’s the condenser fan motor. In Las Vegas, dust and heat bake these motors. We see failures on units as young as six years old, especially if the coil hasn’t been cleaned.
- Unit short-cycles: starts, runs three to five minutes, shuts off, repeats. This is often a failing thermostat sensor, a clogged filter causing high head pressure, or a failing run capacitor. Short-cycling is hard on every other component, so we want to find it fast.
- Breaker trips when the heat pump kicks on. This can be a compressor drawing locked-rotor amps, a chafed wire, or a failing start capacitor. A heat pump that trips a breaker twice should be shut off at the thermostat until we look at it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Las Vegas homeowners, most American Standard heat pump repairs land between $150 and $650 installed. A run capacitor swap is on the low end: $150 – $250 with the service call built in. A condenser fan motor runs $350 – $550 installed. A reversing valve is a bigger job, $450 – $650, because the refrigerant has to be recovered and the system recharged. A compressor replacement goes higher, past that $650 range, and at that point we’ll sit down with you and talk repair versus replacement before you spend a dollar. Every job starts with a written price. You see the part cost, the labor cost, and the total before we touch the unit. If the repair fails within 365 days, we come back and make it right at no charge under our Done Right Promise. That’s not a slogan; it’s written on every invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check three things safely and quickly: make sure the thermostat is set correctly, replace a dirty air filter, and confirm the breaker at the panel hasn’t tripped. After that, we’d recommend you stop. Heat pump cabinets contain 240-volt electrical connections, and capacitors store charge even with power off. A homeowner who opens the service panel on a heat pump is reaching past live terminals to get to the parts. Devin Marlowe, our owner, learned this trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before spending decades on heat pumps across the Southwest, and he’ll tell you the same thing: the most expensive repair he’s ever seen was the one attempted twice by someone who didn’t know what they were reaching for. If the breaker is on and the thermostat is calling and the unit still won’t run, call us at (725) 502-1353 and we’ll diagnose it the same day.
FAQs
Most American Standard heat pumps in Las Vegas last 12 to 16 years with regular maintenance. Our climate shortens that lifespan compared to milder regions: the cooling season runs from April through October, and the unit never really gets a rest. Compressors and fan motors take the biggest hit. A well-maintained unit in Summerlin will outlast a neglected one in North Las Vegas every single time. Dust, heat, and skipped tune-ups are what take years off a system. Call (725) 502-1353 and we’ll give you an honest read on how much life your unit has left.
Contactors and capacitors are always replaced, never rebuilt. Fan motors are replaced. Compressors can sometimes be repaired with a hard-start kit, but that’s a band-aid, not a fix, and we’ll tell you that plainly. The honest answer is that most failed heat pump parts get replaced, not repaired. Tell me what it is doing, and I will tell you what it needs, no guessing, no padding the invoice.
Most single-part replacements are done in 60 to 90 minutes once we’re on-site. A capacitor or contactor is a 30-minute job. A fan motor takes about an hour. A reversing valve or compressor is a half-day job because of the refrigerant work involved. We’ll give you a written window before we start.
Yes. Our trucks carry American Standard-compatible capacitors, contactors, fan motors, defrost boards, and TXV valves, plus parts for Carrier, Trane, and Lennox systems. If your part isn’t on the truck, we can usually source it from our local Las Vegas suppliers same day or next morning. We’ll tell you the timeline before any work begins.
